An advanced piece of technology is helping a local dentist get the jump on tooth destroying cavities. It’s called the CariVu, and Dr. Ryan Bygness, DDS at Thirty Two & You Family Dental is using it to protect the smiles of his patients.
CariVu is a compact hand-held device (about the size of a standard dental instrument) that fits over individual teeth and uses near-infrared light to illuminate the tooth, making the enamel appear transparent, for more precise detection and treatment of cavities and cracks.
“CariVu really gives us a more complete picture of what’s going on inside each tooth,” said Dr. Bygness. “And because it doesn’t use radiation, it’s a great option for children, seniors, pregnant women, and patients who aren’t comfortable with x-rays.”
